Traffic Alert - 18 Mile Stretch
2/3-5 (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and 2/9-12 (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday)-FDOT to Resume 18-Mile Stretch Nighttime Repairs Northbound lane to be detoured to Card Sound Road during construction. Overnight repairs are scheduled to begin at 8pm each night and continue until 5:30am the next morning. The normal $1 Card Sound Road toll is to be suspended for northbound traffic only during detour hours. Also in construction zones, primarily between mile markers 108 and 112, the speed limit for southbound traffic is to be reduced. Law enforcement officers are to be positioned south of mile marker 108 to administrate the detour. Motorists traveling northbound to venues located on Ramp E or Yacht Club Drive (including Gilbert's and the Anchorage) should inform officers of their intention and they will be directed through the construction zone to those venues. FDOT officials advise that schedule changes are possible in the event of inclement weather.

The second module of the program "Observing the Night Sky - Binoculars and Telescopes" begins Tuesday 2/3/15 from 6pm to 9pm at the Cracker House on Crane Point Museum and Nature Center at MM50 (B). An educational program for lifelong learners ages 21 and older. This program consists of a series of three modules with four sessions of 3-hour classes each. These modules will take participants through a basic understanding of how the study of Astronomy began to join those that are now looking for habitable planets in other systems far away. The Connections Project III - Florida Keys Council of the Arts
Thursday 2/12 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Ocean/Sotheby's International Realty, 81.8 (B) in Islamorada. Exhibit ends February 25 and moves to another location in the Florida Keys. The road show began in Key Largo in January and will conclude in Key West in May. This is the third year of the traveling fundraiser featuring a 24-foot vibrant mosaic containing nearly 400 canvases, created by local artists and art enthusiasts. The mosaic showcases the diverse and unique talent of artists and citizens of the Florida Keys. Patrons can collect art too by making a $35 donation for one canvas or a $100 donation for three at any reception or online at www.keysarts.com - Once the road show has ended, donors will receive a randomly selected piece of the mosaic in the mail. Each work will include an artist statement providing insight into the origin of the work and the artists thoughts and inspiration. Proceeds directly benefit Keys artists and arts organizations through Arts Council grants, including the Artists in Schools grant, the audience development grant known as ArtReach and a Special Projects grant. The mosaic mural will be on exhibition in each location for about a week before going on the road to the next event. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be available at the receptions.
